How Does A Systematic Investment Plan Calculator Work?

A Systematic Investment Plan calculator estimates the future value of your monthly SIP investments using compound interest. The calculation considers 3 key factors:

  • Monthly Investment Amount
  • Expected Annual Rate of Return
  • Investment Tenure

The SIP calculation formula is:

FV = P × ({[1 + i]^n – 1} / i) × (1 + i)

Where

  • FV = Estimated Maturity Amount
  • P = Monthly Investment Amount
  • i = Monthly Rate of Return
  • n = No. of investments

Example

Suppose you invest:

  • Monthly SIP = Rs. 5,000
  • Expected Annual Return = 12%
  • Investment Period = 20 years

Step 1: Write the formula

FV = P × ({[1 + i]^n – 1} / i) × (1 + i)

Step 2: Calculate the monthly rate of return (i)

Annual Return = 12%

Monthly Return (i) = 12 ÷ (12 x 100) = 0.01

i = 0.01 (1% per month)

Step 3: Calculate the number of installments (n)

20 years x 12 months = 240

n = 240 Step 4: Substitute the values into the formula. P = 5000 i = 0.01 n = 240 Step 5: Result FV = Rs. 49,96,000 (Approx.)

Result

  • Your Investment (Monthly SIP x No. of Installments = 5000 x 240) = ₹12,00,000
  • Estimated Wealth Gain = ₹37,96,000 (approx)
  • Estimated Value of your Investment = ₹49,96,000 (approx) The SIP formula assumes that investments are made regularly every month and that the expected rate of return remains constant throughout the investment period. Since mutual fund returns are market-linked and may fluctuate over time, the calculator provides only an estimated maturity value and not guaranteed returns.
