What is Gratuity Calculator?

How Does the Gratuity Calculator Work?

A gratuity calculator estimates the gratuity payable based on your last drawn salary (basic + dearness allowance) and the number of completed years of service. The calculation generally follows the provisions of the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, for eligible employees.

Gratuity Formula
For employees covered under the Act

Gratuity = (Last Drawn Salary x 15 x Years of Service) ÷ 26

Where

  • Last Drawn Salary = Basic + Dearness Allowance
  • 15 = 15-day wages per year of service
  • 26 = No. of working days in a month (excluding Sundays)
  • Years of Service = Total completed years (if you have worked for more than 6 months in the last year, it is generally counted as one full year)

Example

Suppose you invest Rs. 2,50,000 in an FD for 4 years at an annual interest rate of 7.5%

  • Last Drawn Salary = Rs. 60,000 per month
  • Completed Years of Service = 12 years

Gratuity = (60,000 x 15 x 12) ÷ 26 = Rs. 4,15,385 (approx)

For employees not covered under the Act

Gratuity = (Last Drawn Salary x 15 x Years of Service) ÷ 30

Where

  • Last Drawn Salary = Basic + Dearness Allowance
  • 115 = 15-day wages per year of service
  • 30 = No. of calendar days in a month
  • Years of Service = Fully completed years

Example
  • Last Drawn Salary = Rs. 45,000 per month
  • Completed Years of Service = 8 years

Gratuity = 45,000 x 15 x 8) ÷ 30 = Rs. 1,80,000 (approx)
